On January 6, 2022, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released new guidance on workplace exclusion and return-to-work for individuals with COVID-19 or exposure to COVID-19. The guidance shortened isolation and quarantine periods generally to 5 days from 10 days in the absence of fever with a negative test. Without those conditions, quarantine/isolation continues for 10 days. For 10 days after a positive test, a person must wear a face covering around others.

Vaccinated and/or boosted individuals exposed to someone with COVID-19 may skip quarantine but should wear a mask for 10 days and get tested on day five.

Per Governor Newsom’s December 2020 Executive Order N-84-20, this new CDPH guidance on quarantine/isolation supersedes the quarantine/isolation requirements of both the June 2021 version of the Emergency Temporary Standards (ETS), and the version of the ETS that will become effective on January 14, 2022.

All other portions of the June 2021 version of the ETS which takes effect on January 14, 2022 will still apply.
